We’d like to say a huge thanks to Ami Gibson who gave a fantastic guest lecture to our fourth year BA (Hons) Fashion Management students and our MSc Fashion Management students as part of their Fashion Buying and Forecasting modules.
Ami is a designer at Wilson Design Source Supply and is based in their Glasgow HQ. Her duties include designing collections, giving presentations to both her colleagues and clients, sourcing fabrics, working closely with manufacturers and visiting factories overseas. Last year she went on a development trip to Bangladesh where she sourced fabrics and worked with both knitwear and general production factories.
Ami’s role involves working closely with a range of clients and manufacturers and during her talk she emphasised the importance of building and maintaing good relationships.
Ami presented a range of trend forecasting resources to the students, including real examples of client trend and range planning boards.
Throughout her talk, Ami emphasised the centrality of the customer and their characteristics when making design and buying decisions and she also stressed the importance of considering cost when making design and buying decisions as return on investment is extremely important.
Thanks again Ami!
Happy friday everyone!

Have a lovely weekend everyone!
If you’re looking for something fun to do this weekend why not visit Drum Castle and vote for your favourite BA (Hons) Fashion and Textile tote bag design?
As part of a live project, 36 first year students from Gray’s School of Art have each produced their own unique tote bag design, with cotton shopping bags on display in and around the castle.
The most popular design will be produced and sold in the Castle shop!
It’s been a busy week for our third years with lots of placement updates!
Lucie is on a year long placement with Cosmopolitan magazine in Prague! A few months ago, Cosmopolitan started helping Rosa charity, which helps abused women and their children overcome problems. Last week, Lucie and the fashion team went to Fashion Arena Outlet to pick out clothes for the children. This initiative has been so successful that Cosmopolitan are planning to hit the interior decor stores next to provide bed linen and pillows. We think this is a fantastic initiative and look forward to hearing more!
Courtney is on placement with fashion and accessory brand Skinny Dip London and attended the 4th Edition launch party last week where she had a great time!
Danielle is at Those Were the Days Vintage in Edinburgh working as a brand ambassador! This beautiful boutique specialises in collections that combine vintage with contemporary style, including bridal wear.
Isla is on placement at London’s cult couture fashion label Atelier Tammam. Isla has been helping manage the brand’s social media and we just love the creative visuals they share!
Meanwhile, Lauren has been at Pure London on a buying trip with her placement host Edinburgh-based Sam Brown Boutique.
Kat is on placement with our Media team here at Aberdeen Business School and has been getting some fantastic photography and filming experience, where she has been involved in creating marketing materials for our upcoming Applicants’ Day events! Here’s Kat out on location shooting the beautiful River Dee in Aberdeen!
After all their hard work we hope our students will enjoy a relaxing weekend. We were pleased to see that Mollie and Beth have been making the most of their time in London, enjoying these fabulous cocktails in Selfridges!
Huge congratulations to our students who graduated this afternoon! It was lovely to see so many of our MSc Fashion Management students. We hope you have fun celebrating your successes. Keep in touch!
This beautiful film shows a behind the scenes glimpse of the making of Burberry‘s iconic scarves as they launch their Scarf Bar!
This is an exciting time for Johnstons of Elgin, as the Burberry Scarf Bar is stocked with classic, woven cashmere scarves made in the Scottish mill – a testament to their strong relationship with Burberry, and the skills and craftmanship of the Scottish fashion and textiles industry.
Thanks to our BA (Hons) Fashion Management graduate Rachel Glennie, who works at Johnsons of Elgin, for sharing this film with us. We hope you enjoy!
We had a fantastic time at the Gray’s School of Art degree show this afternoon. As always there were some interesting and thought provoking exhibits. Some fabulous use of colour really brightened up our rainy Sunday afternoon. Well done to everyone for all their hard work!
Here is where they keep the fashion…
It was great to see the students’ inspiration, mood boards and the story behind their designs displayed using electronic visuals throughout the fashion room. This really helped bring the fashion to life for those who missed the fashion show itself.
