Today we launched our annual fashion exhibition with first year Fashion Management, Event Management and Public Relations students! Students were split into ten teams and given ten pounds to be spent in an allocated Aberdeen-based charity shop. The project will run for the next ten weeks where students will plan and organise a fashion exhibition to be held on Wednesday the 12th of April.
In celebration of our newly formed School of Creative and Cultural Business, the students have been asked to choose a cultural artefact and this will form the inspiration behind their exhibition space. We’re so excited to see what the different teams come up with!
More on this to follow where we look forward to sharing the students’ garment choices and plans for the exhibition…
Happy friday everyone!
It’s been an exciting week at the Fashion Place where we’ve had our annual trip to London Fashion Week (post to follow next week!) and lots more exciting updates from our placement students…
Courtney who’s on placement at Skinny Dip London, has been on a buying trip to Phiney Pet‘s A/W presentation We love their combination of retro vibes and Autumnal tones!
Hannah (who’s on placement at country clothing brand A Hume) has also been a buying trip to Fairfax & Favour.
Shannon’s written her first solo piece whilst on placement at the Herald & Times, covering luxury scarves and jewellery designer Karen Mabon!
Danielle’s been doing some 1950’s research for her placement at Those Were the Days Vintage… and Mollie has also shared some vintage style artwork from her office at the Gathering Goddess.
As well as this beautiful view from Shoreditch House…
Have a lovely weekend everyone!
Yesterday our students presented the cheque for funds raised during the Golden Show fashion event to Down’s Syndrome Scotland. We celebrated by watching a video of the event, for the benefit of the students who were busy styling and organising models backstage on the night of the show.
Well done everyone and congratulations on organising a fantastic event and raising an impressive sum for a local charity.
This beautiful film shows a behind the scenes glimpse of the making of Burberry‘s iconic scarves as they launch their Scarf Bar!
This is an exciting time for Johnstons of Elgin, as the Burberry Scarf Bar is stocked with classic, woven cashmere scarves made in the Scottish mill – a testament to their strong relationship with Burberry, and the skills and craftmanship of the Scottish fashion and textiles industry.
Thanks to our BA (Hons) Fashion Management graduate Rachel Glennie, who works at Johnsons of Elgin, for sharing this film with us. We hope you enjoy!
We had a fantastic time at the Gray’s School of Art degree show this afternoon. As always there were some interesting and thought provoking exhibits. Some fabulous use of colour really brightened up our rainy Sunday afternoon. Well done to everyone for all their hard work!
Here is where they keep the fashion…
It was great to see the students’ inspiration, mood boards and the story behind their designs displayed using electronic visuals throughout the fashion room. This really helped bring the fashion to life for those who missed the fashion show itself.
We had a fantastic evening at the Trend Life with Style awards and would like to thank Trend for hosting such a brilliant event!
The food and entertainment were fantastic and there were some great raffle prizes which some of the guests from our table even won! Sadly we didn’t win the Finnies jewellery raffle (but at least we have some left over macarons to numb the pain…)
A huge congratulations to all the prize winners! We’re already looking forward to next year’s event!
We’re looking forward to the annual Trend Life with Style awards this evening at Ardoe House Hotel. We’ve enjoyed the event for a number of years now, which has become a key part of the business calendar here in Aberdeen. It’s always really interesting to hear about the range of businesses that have been short-listed. The event is a glamorous affair and so, of course, we always enjoy seeing all the fabulous fashion.
Tonight we’ll be enjoying the evening at the Aberdeen Business School table with a number of guests including Ian and Kathleen Hawthorn (owners of McCalls), and Lisa McGirr (Marketing and PR Manager at John Lewis, Aberdeen). McCalls and John Lewis are hugely supportive of our Fashion Management programme, providing placements, projects and sponsoring student prizes. We’re hugely grateful for this support!
Scott Hunter and Campbell Urquhart (from Hampton Associates) will also be joining us at the event. We’ve been working with Hampton Associates for a couple of years now where they’ve provide fantastic creative and design input into our marketing, including our recent “top dog” campaign.
Here’s to an evening of style and business success!
