Who doesn’t love candy floss and a touch of pink? That’s what one of our student groups thought when they chose a candy striped shirt from Aberdeen’s Cancer Research shop! Styled with a denim skirt, the Cotton Candies plan to theme their fashion showcase around a traditional British carnival – inspired by the hit musical and movie Grease.
We look forward to seeing this colourful, feel-good fun brought to life at the exhibition launch on the 12th of April! We’re guessing there will be sweeties involved…
We’re pleased to reveal another exciting theme from our upcoming Fashion Exhibition: a Celebration of Creativity and Culture… One of our student teams headed to Aberdeenshire’s Haddo House to stage a Beetlejuice themed photoshoot featuring two of the students (first year Fashion Management) as models (don’t they look great?!) and their garment – sourced from Aberdeen’s Shelter charity shop.
The team are hoping to raise awareness of Shelter’s mission to help the homeless through a creative showcase, inspired by the 1988 cult classic movie Beetlejuice and its links to fashion trends.
We’re pleased to reveal another theme from this year’s fashion exhibition… “fam fatale”! This particular showcase promotes Oxfam, whose international work on women’s rights has inspired the students to host a Great Gatsby themed exhibition, tipping their Trilby hats to celebrate 1920’s fashion and style.
The countdown is on to our annual charity fashion exhibition: a celebration of creativity and culture! Our first years are working hard on their creative ideas…
Last week, the students presented their ideas as part of a formal business pitch and we really enjoyed seeing some of their initial ideas brought to life in the form of mood boards, posters and videos – well done everyone!
Student groups were each assigned a charity (Cancer Research, Chest Heart and Stroke, CLAN, Oxfam, Stella’ Voice, PDSA, Save the Children, Shelter, Sue Ryder Care and Barnardo’s) and given £10 to spend on a garment from the charity’s local branch; they were then asked to choose a cultural artefact and this – combined with the garment and their charity’s mission – would form the basis of their creative showcase!
We’re looking forward to sharing some of these ideas over the next few weeks in the run up to the exhibition’s launch on the 12th of April! We’ve seen a real variety of themes so far, from cult classic TV shows to Hollywood blockbusters and novels! Can you guess (from the garments above) what some of these themes might be…?
In the run up to The Golden Show we can now confirm that Stacey Strachan and Gosia Weiss will be doing our models’ make up. We are extremely excited about this as its great to have local support.

Hair will be by Toni & Guy, who have been really supportive over the past few years of our fashion show project.

I don’t know about you but we can’t wait for the Golden Show!
Lots of exciting preparation is currently taking place in the Aberdeen Business School atrium and here’s a small preview of what’s to come at tonight’s fashion exhibition… We look forward to seeing you there!
It’s March (already) and here’s our monthly throwback to this time last year when our first year fashion management students were creating commonwealth themed window displays to celebrate Glasgow 2014! This year’s theme… the fiftieth anniversary of Aberdeen Business School (of course)! Watch this space…
We had a fantastic time in London last week (a little sad it’s all over – until next year anyway). Here are some photos of the Thea Porter exhibit at the Fashion and Textile Museum in London, showcasing topical 70’s style.
We’re welcoming our prospective students to today’s Applicants’ Day with sweeties and ice cream! We hope all our guests find the event informative and enjoyable (and that there are some leftovers…)!
Here are some visual highlights of our London trip so far, including Liberty of London and Selfridges (of course!)
Have a fabulous weekend!
