We’re looking forward to the annual Trend Life with Style awards this evening at Ardoe House Hotel. We’ve enjoyed the event for a number of years now, which has become a key part of the business calendar here in Aberdeen. It’s always really interesting to hear about the range of businesses that have been short-listed. The event is a glamorous affair and so, of course, we always enjoy seeing all the fabulous fashion.
Tonight we’ll be enjoying the evening at the Aberdeen Business School table with a number of guests including Ian and Kathleen Hawthorn (owners of McCalls), and Lisa McGirr (Marketing and PR Manager at John Lewis, Aberdeen). McCalls and John Lewis are hugely supportive of our Fashion Management programme, providing placements, projects and sponsoring student prizes. We’re hugely grateful for this support!
Scott Hunter and Campbell Urquhart (from Hampton Associates) will also be joining us at the event. We’ve been working with Hampton Associates for a couple of years now where they’ve provide fantastic creative and design input into our marketing, including our recent “top dog” campaign.
Here’s to an evening of style and business success!
It’s more than two weeks since the fashion show and (in the absence of our students) we’ve been injecting some fashion into the building (which feels very empty with our students so recently gone off for summer). Here’s our Golden Show Fiftieth Anniversary window display! After all it would be a shame to waste the beautiful paper dresses our third years made for the fashion show; these have become lovingly known as the Quality Street dresses.
We also felt that the foil birthday balloons could be used to keep the Aberdeen Business School atrium looking suitable fashionable over the summer months.
Have a fabulous summer everyone and we look forward to seeing you at the end of September!
With just under 24 hours until the Golden Show, AVC Media have been very busy setting up our staging and lighting equipment!
We were excited to see AVC Media arrive promptly this morning with their vans full of equipment, which they have kindly donated for the fashion show.
The team got to work and within a few hours our stage had completely transformed making us even more excited for the show tomorrow evening
We would like to say a huge thank you to the AVC Media team who helped us today and donated their equipment and skills for such a great cause!
Some of the AVC Media team looking very proud of the work they have achieved today!
Thanks again AVC and we hope you enjoy the show!
With only two days until the Golden Show, everyone is busy with last minute preparations!
Yesterday one of our Golden Show make-up artists trialled a smokey eyeshadow with gold embellishment, which will look perfect on our beautiful models!
For this Friday’s Golden Show we have a range of exciting stalls for you to browse around and enjoy!

We’d also like to thank Yo! Sushi for providing us with sushi for our VIP room.

Only two days to go…
Fundraising for The Golden Show is well underway, with only 3 weeks to go!! So far, £1768.35* has been raised in aid of Down’s Syndrome Scotland. Ticket sales and fundraising activities have been a huge success and everyone involved has thoroughly enjoyed taking part.
Here are a few details of the events and money raised for each event:
Our Charity Pub Quiz held at Siberia raised £61.
Louise Bark, one of our Fashion Management students raised a staggering £403 by doing a 10 mile sponsored cycle.
Bake sales held on campus at ABS so far have raised £125 all together and we have plans for many more leading up to the event. Everybody loves cake!
Fundraising events held over the Easter period at Bon Accord and St Nicholas raised £83, activities included face painting, hop scotch and memory game.

Our next scheduled event is our Charity Pub Crawl on the 13th May 2015 where the Fashion Management students will be crawling around the city centre pubs wearing black and white t-shirts with The Golden Show printed logo and fancy gold make up. Our first Bon Accord charity event!!
Here’s a short film with behind the scenes footage of our Golden Show photoshoot which took place on Tuesday at Paramount Bar.
The shoot features our models, Gillian Leslie and Iuilia Stoica (stage 3 Fashion Management) and Tadiwanashe Wazara (stage 2 Fashion Management) and our fabulous photographers, Jen BirtlesKelman and Martin Parker.
A huge thanks to MSc Fashion Management student Joanna Anniol for filming and editing, and a further thanks to Bon Accord & St Nicholas for lending us the garments.
Our Masters students are around mid-way through their placements and here’s a visual update from Jessica, who’s working at Pandora Germany for the next three months, and Sarah, who’s on placement at German cashmere label Henry Christ.
We love Pandora‘s branding, which is strongly influenced by both its Danish roots and Thai designs. From these photos, it’s clear to see that this translates not only to the jewellery, packaging, and retail spaces, but also to their office environment.
The brand Henry Christ is also a very interesting one, where the founders and designers were part of the German TV production, Fashion Hero. Today, only five years after the foundation of the company, their products are available in 17 countries worldwide! Like Pandora, their strong visual identity is evident in the pictures above where their logo, garments, retail and office space are shown.
Lots of exciting preparation is currently taking place in the Aberdeen Business School atrium and here’s a small preview of what’s to come at tonight’s fashion exhibition… We look forward to seeing you there!
Tomorrow we’ll be setting up the first year fashion exhibition for our launch event at 6pm! Hope you can make it along to what is set to be a fantastic event! This poster provides another sneak peak at what’s to come…
